Chapter 11 Assignment

For this assignment, you will answer questions about Chapter 11.

Read Chapter 11: Mental Health in the textbook.

STEP 2: Write your Answers

Please write answers in sentence form.

1. In your own words, what is a culture-bound syndrome? What is one example of a culture-bound syndrome? Describe it.
2. Describe one of the following: Eating Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Mood Disorders, Schizophrenia, OR Sleep from a biocultural perspective. In other words, what aspects of it seem to be biologically based? What aspects seem to be cultural?
3. After reading the textbook, what thoughts do you have about diagnosis and treatment for people with mental illness? (This question is intentionally broad. A lot of issues were raised in reading, and I'm curious what stood out to you about treatment and diagnosis of mental illness.)
