Welcome to week one. This is where you will start each week. Please read the Overview & Instructions page thoroughly each week before attempting any assignments. Please read through the pages in the order they are posted in the module.

Remember, there are two deadlines each week: Tuesday at 11:59 PM and Friday at 11:59 PM. This page will provide all the readings, assignments, and instructions for each week.

Assignments should be submitted in the order in which they appear on this page. Same goes for readings. Make sure to do the corresponding readings and review instructions and my notes/lectures BEFORE attempting to complete any assignment!

Though the Modules tab will display assignments for the entire quarter, these assignments are not accessible until the week before they are due. Each week's module opens the preceding Sunday. So, now you can access Weeks 1 and 2. On Sunday, January 11 you will be able to access Week 3, and so on.

Module Objective: To gain a better understanding of purpose and audience and gain a better understanding of the importance of personal narrative and what we can learn about peers' various experiences.

This week will be an introduction to the course as well as an introduction to Essay #1 -- The Personal Narrative. Please review the Assignment Sheet and Personal Essay Checklist in Module Week One as well as the pages of notes and writing exercises that follow. You have two readings this week. These essays serve as excellent examples of a personal essay. "Me Talk Pretty One Day" and "A Clack of Tiny Sparks: Remembrances of a Gay Boyhood" can be found as pages in Module Week One.

Always email me with any questions or writing you want me to look at. The best way to know if you are on track is to SHOW me what you are working on. So please send writing whenever you want!

Upload a photo of yourself. This will appear when you post to discussions, send Canvas emails, etc.

Read the Introduction to 50 Essays.
Read all the pages in the Week One Module.
Read "Me Talk Pretty One Day" and "A Clack of Tiny Sparks: Remembrances of a Gay Boyhood"
Choose the identity you will write about for Essay #1

Turn in Reading Response #1 as a document: Reading Responses are turned in as documents using the drop box. Submit this assignment by hitting the Submit Assignment button on the right of the page. You can upload your file there.
